Getting Started

hey,
I am 100% new to useing SQL server 2005 express/SQL server, and when I installed it I only had 3 options I could chose from in my start menue for this program:
Server configuration manager, SQL server and error usage reporting, and SQL server serfuace area configuration.
And what I want to do is make a database for a website I am making, with files that can be downloaded and user account info(passwords and usernames)
but I dont know what to do, what can I do to do this?

Had the same problem after about 2 hours found this link, http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=246872&SiteID=1 hope it helps I am just going to try it.. Came on here myself looking for the same thing

|||ya....
I hope I get a reply soon...|||use the above link for management tool it lets you create db and add tables yet to figure out had to name table but I will just read the sql server docs.|||what link?
the only link I see is a link to this topic, lol...|||

Sorry it copied the wrong link and I didn.t check it.

It is on the sql express from page if you click if you click on Easy to Use ( which doesn't look like you need to click it) about 2/3rds down it is under "Simplified Management", i must admit I didn't find it there but searching MSDN.

Hope that helps

|||ok, you are making this very hard, first you say goto that download link, then you say click on easy to use, but I dont have to because it not there, there is no simplified managment, you did not find it and are now telling me to search MSDN....
just tell me, have you actualy found out HOW to do what I needed? If so can you give me the exact link to the page that helped you, or if not, can you be a little less confusing please?
Thanks|||

Click on the link above and download the software or click on this link and download the software whats so hard about it.

http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/sql/

where it says free management tool and click at right hand side, it takes you to the above link

Next time not bother

|||k,
well,
umm, when installing that magment tool, I got this error:
This installation pkage is not supported by this prossesser tpye. Please contact your product vendor.
do I have no chance now?|||

This is the download page for Management Studio Express: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=82afbd59-57a4-455e-a2d6-1d4c98d40f6e&displaylang=en

When you get to the step of installing the .msi, you need to choose whether you want the 64-bit or the 32-bit version. Use the 32-bit version on 32-bit operating systems and the 64-bit version on 64-bit operating systems. The 64-bit version won't install on a 32-bit OS.

Hope this helps,

Steve

|||oh, I see, thanks soo much, I got it!|||

Nobody doesn't have to help you here, remember that and change your attitude.
